Branding is a huge subject, one that most people think of as a logo, colors and other visual bits. Nothing is further from the truth.
Branding is the big stuff. The main message, the values, the mission and ultimately the truly “human” aspects of a business. Once you have these core ideas then you can create the visual pieces. (The visual pieces is what I do).
I have started to delve deeply into understand bigger-picture branding – to really be the most effective and helpful I when I create those visual pieces for my clients.
Ultimately, for most solo entrepreneurs – I’m digging deep into who they are, why they have a business and the details of their business. Once I really get a sense of all these things, I bring together the business and human to help them connect to the people they want to help.
One small step on the road to doing this is to create a mood board, when I personify the business in a collection of images. I’ve begun to see this step as ESSENTIAL. It begins to give a form to intangible concepts.
