What is SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?

What is SEO?

SEO aka Search Engine Optimization is a set of techniques people use to make their website more likely to appear higher in lists of website search results.

For example, when you go to Google.com and enter a question or a phrase to search for, you get a list of results. Think about some of your recent web searches. Some searches are really specific, while some are really broad. Popular, broad searches are more difficult to get a website to appear (or rank) higher on, while more specific and less used searches can be easier.

SEO has a bit of mixed history, as some people misused techniques for their benefit. We think of SEO as more of a long-term strategy that can make your site easier to find by people who need your help.
